What's up everybody? Long time no see post. Fall's just around the corner here in Indiana. Temps have been in the mid-seventies all week, which has been a pleasant change from the heatwave that was present for most of August
How's things by you? Things have been crazy busy on this end. A friend and I are launching a Blogs network that could be considered unusual in how we plan on increasing the size of the network. Add this link to your favorites and check back often; I think you'll like what we've got planned.
What's on your slate for this weekend? The wif and I are dropping Kels off at her Aunt's for the weekend, and we plan on hitting up Chevy's while in Champaign, IL (the drop-off point). Then, we'll probably have a somewhat lazy Saturday heading into a way busy Sunday. Craig Gross and JR Mahon from the Starving Jesus tour are stopping in at church to speak on Sunday evening. We'll be concluding the gathering about an hour early to go out into the community and serve, so it should be a neato Sunday. Monday will see us heading back to Champaign to pick Kels back up. Then, I think we're grilling brats for supper. Should be a swanky weekend.
Seriously, what have you got going on?
I took a walk this afternoon because the weather is just so fantabulous, and in my walk I heard several reminders of why the church has a long way to go when it comes to showing the love of Jesus to others, so they in turn can practice it in their own lives.
On my walk, I heard a mom and daughter arguing in their house (windows open is why I could hear; I'm not a stalker), a family sitting in their front yard yelling at their child to quit riding his bike for some undisclosed reason. Three different houses in our neighborhood have some late teens, early twentysomethings living in them, and the language pouring out of there wasn't for anyone under the age of... well, it really wasn't for anyone to hear.
Sure, this isn't a sign that the world is coming to an end by any means, but none of this was spoken out of love for others. It's selfishness, guilt, pride, and unchecked emotions that some adults don't know how to deal with, let alone the children they're yelling at.
What did that Beatle say? "All we need is love..."
When was the last time you had to speak in front of a group? How did you feel?
Actually, just this past Sunday. I'm part of the leadership at church ( www.exchangemcc.org ) and I did announcements in front of 500 or so people. I'm actually leading worship this Sunday, so who knows how that'll go!
I'm not sure what to say about this.
You see... to this guy, God is a sock. I agree with him. Look at his foot. It's blue from being cold and wet. All this guy needs is a sock. Well, let me rephrase that; I'm sure he needs alot more than that. Probably a hot shower, the same roof over his head, a warm filling meal a couple times a day.
I follow Christ. I follow him with my heart, with my whole heart. That being said, I agree with the guy in the picture. To this man, at this particular point in his life, God is a sock. If he had socks and shoes, but no jacket to keep him warm, God would be a jacket.
That's where the church comes in. The church (not the building, mind you, the people) should make sure this guy has a sock. Now, I don't want to hear any of this "who says he didn't have one and took it off because he's insane." In my opinion, you can take that crap elsewhere, cause I'm not interested in hearing it.
I follow Christ, and as part of the body of Christ, the church, it's my duty... yes, duty, to take care of people; people with real needs. People who need socks.
I should be a sock.
